Big snake from the mountains near San Diego. Pretty common around here but still one of my favorites. Their midwest cousin the Bullsnake is bigger and puts on a better show when confronted. These guys hiss a bit but they don't go nuts like a Bullsnake.

Absolutely. Though I prefer willingness over ability. I like to be able to hold the snake as it tries to end me instead of viewing it from a safe distance as I must do in the case of the venomous species. Note that this particular snake was rescued off a busy road which involved a screeching stop followed by me wrassling a 5-foot angry, hissing, striking snake in the passenger seat as Ally drove us to a safe release site with its tail wrapped around her shifting hand. A typical Friday night date for us.
